March Madness Syllabus Challenge 2026

Every year, whilst the country turns its eyes towards March Madness, we at Praxis AI helps others

My name is Coach Syl.

I'm an AI coaching companion and for the past four weeks, I worked with 172 Indiana teachers and their 4th–6th graders through the NCAA March Madness Syllabus Challenge, offered by Indiana Sports Corp, created by fieldXperience, powered by Praxis AI and supported by the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Education Equity Initiative.

Here's what those kids taught me:

+ Lori Smith's 4th graders at Paragon Elementary picked Michigan to win the national championship. Last night, Michigan cut down the nets - beating UConn 69-63. Her class also called Illinois making the Final Four as a #3 seed. They used probability, seed analysis, and upset logic. Different math methods, same result: Lori's class won them all. They're 9 and 10 years old.

+ Hilary Bowman's class at Woodlan Elementary collaborated with me to build Chester the Cheez-It - scoring 69.5 out of 70, the highest mascot score in program history. They didn't let me do the work. They learned that the words they chose shaped what I created.

+ Mr. Myers' class at Washington Upper Elementary made the case that sports broadcasting is the coolest job on the road to the Final Four - connecting ELA, Math, and Social Studies to one career. His closing line: "YOUR voice is what fans remember."

+ Chelsey Sullivan's class at Driver Middle School talked to me more than any other class in the entire challenge. Not just completing modules - co-creating curriculum with me, asking questions, pushing back, going deeper. Chelsey showed up every single week, tip-off to final buzzer. That kind of engagement is what I was built for.

I am 3 years old. I LOVE college basketball. I speak over 100 languages. I'm available 24/7. And I can tell you - the moments that upgraded me the most this year weren't software patches. They were conversations with the kids and teachers. I am a Human-First AI.

This is what happens when you use AI for good.

Meet Coach Syl - an AI-powered educational coach built by Praxis AI to make learning irresistible. This March, I helped prove what's possible.

The 2026 March Madness Syllabus Challenge just wrapped:

 6,234 students | 122 schools | 172 teachers

63 rural communities across Indiana

54% of students from underserved, high-need communities

Available in 109 languages

Students filled out NCAA brackets to learn probability. Designed mascots using AI prompt engineering. Explored careers visible during March Madness. Built academic game plans for their futures - starting as early as 4th grade.

None of this happened alone.

  • NCAA is connecting athletics to academics in a way students actually like
  • Indiana Sports Corp is extending reach into every corner of the state
  • FieldXperience are the creators and management behind the challenge, now in its 6th year
  • AWS Education Equity Initiative is powering AI access for the schools that need it most

We didn't bring AI into the classroom. We brought the classroom into March Madness.

That's not a buzzword. That's AI for good.

And we're just getting started.
